I'm not sure of the name of this flower - but it suits this week's theme of pink flowers.

Flower of the Day - Pale Pink Azalea

When viewed up close, the shiny "pewter tipped" stamens of these Azaleas can be seen.

Flower of the Day - Pale Pink Old Fashioned Begonias

This begonia is not so common nowadays, but I remember these growing in the garden when I was a child.
(and a very Happy Birthday to Margaret for today, too)

Flower of the Day - Hot Pink Grevillea

Flower of the Day - Hot Pink Grevillea. This vibrantly coloured flower was photographed in the Royal Botanic Gardens in Sydney.  Just yesterday the RBG announced a "master plan" for the future that includes a ferry wharf, train station and luxury hotel for the Gardens.  Reactions were mixed, but I liked the idea, as it would bring more visitors to the gardens and Art Gallery of NSW.  Read more at The Royal Botanic Gardens website

Flower of the Week - Grevillea

Grevillea buxifolia or Grey Spider Flower. Grevilleas are part of the Protea plant family, and they are named after Charles Francis Greville, the co-founder of the Royal Horticultural Society.  Another gorgeous grevillea tomorrow!

Fragrant Flower - Gardenia

Gardenias are probably my ultimate favourite fragrant flower. Velvety smooth creamy petals and a divine perfume - flowers don't get much better than this! As an artist, I am much in awe of the beautifully designed form and symmetry of these flowers, and the way their petals unfurl, too. As always, there is so much beauty to be found in nature.

Next week Flower of the Day will feature lots of gorgeous Grevillea flowers. Wishing you a happy and beautiful weekend!

Fragrant flowers - Pelargonium

Pelargoniums (also known as geraniums) are originally from South Africa and usually have aromatic leaves which may be  lemon, apple, rose, pine, mint or peppermint scented, depending on the variety. This one smells like turkish delight! The leaves release the fragrance when bruised or crushed.

Fragrant Flower - Freesia

Freesias are another of my favourite perfumed flowers. These ones are from last year.   In the past few weeks I have noticed this year's plants starting to pop up in my garden.

Fragrant Flower - Frangipani

These beautiful Frangipani were photographed in Queensland in January. I've always loved these flowers  - gorgeous perfume, beautiful form, silky petals and the perfect splash of colour.
