Flower of the Day - Black Wattle (Callicoma serratifolia)
Callicoma serrata is a shrub or tree that has pom pom like clusters of cream -yellow flowers, each about 1.5 cm in diameter. Callicoma is a monotypic genus - this is the only species in it. Although the flowers resembles Acacias (wattles), the two are not related.
This plant was the main species used by the Early European settlers in Sydney to make "wattle and daub" huts.
