Flower of the Day - Lambertia (Mountain devil)

Flower of the Day - Lambertia (Mountain Devil)
Message - Things will work out for the best

Lambertia formosa, or Mountain Devil is a beautiful Australian native shrub occurring naturally in New South Wales bushland. This unusual flower consists of seven pinkish red flowers (about 4 cm in length) enclosed in a ring of red-green bracts.  It is wonderful to see this flower reappearing in bushland.  For many years it was rare and almost disappeared entirely because people collected the distinctive seed pods (shaped like horned devil's heads) as souveniers. It is now illegal to collect these flowers, or their seeds from nature reserves or bushland. Photograph taken in bushland north of Sydney.
